The Sound of Recovery: Revolutionizing Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder

Guest Speaker: Dr Daisy Thompson-Lake

In this episode titled “The Sound of Recovery: Revolutionizing Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder”, Dr Daisy Thompson-Lake discusses the exciting new therapy she's developing for people with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). This therapy, called “sonication”, noninvasively delivers ultrasound waves to a key reward centre in the brain, in hopes of attenuating the disrupted reward processing in people with OUD. The success of this therapy exceeded expectations, with around 90% of their participants achieving long-term abstinence - far surpassing typical treatment efficacy! We enjoyed discussing how this therapy works with Daisy, as well as what it's like to be an academic, and her journey through research.

We're excited to see what she gets up to next, and hope you're looking forward to this exciting, episode!
